Modern psychologists, both theorists and practitioners, are trying to find answers to the question of how to build a marital relationship between partners, how to survive a family crisis, what determines marital satisfaction, and how to maintain family happiness. The first theoretical section considers the concepts of marriage and family relations, and what psychological factors affect the well-being of the couple, as well as identifies trends in the modern family. The second theoretical section provides information on psychological characteristics and how communication difficulties in marriage are closely related to the emotional balance in the couple. In the empirical section of the work, the peculiarities of marital communication, differences in the behavior of men and women in conflict situations were identified; areas in which misunderstandings most often occur; and the relationship between family structure (presence or absence of children) and marital behavior in conflicts.Актуальність обраної теми дослідження обумовлена розмиванням культурно-моральних норм, забуванням сімейних традицій, збільшенням кількості розлучень, порушенням правил в побудові відносин. Сучасні психологи, як теоретики, так і практики намагаються знайти відповідь на питання про те, як будувати подружні стосунки між партнерами, як пережити сімейну кризу, від чого залежить задоволеність шлюбом, і як зберегти сімейне щастя. У першому теоретичному розділі розглядаються поняття подружжя і сімейних відносин, та які психологічні чинники впливають на благополуччя в парі, а також визначаються тенденції розвитку сучасної родини. У другому теоретичному розділі дається інформація щодо психологічних особливостей та як труднощі спілкування в подружжі тісно пов’язані з емоційним балансом в парі.
